How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

As a comprehensive dentistry practice that provides an extensive range of services to patients of all ages, Spanish Trail Dentistry offers teeth whitening in Pensacola FL to those patients looking to whiten and brighten their smiles. We offer both in-office and take-home Zoom! teeth whitening options.

Many people interested in improving the appearance of their smiles with teeth whitening wonder how long the effects last. This is actually a tough question to answer as everyone has their own habits including what they eat and drink regularly. For instance, the more you consume foods & beverages that stain teeth like red pasta sauces, blueberries, coffee, cola, red wine, etc., the sooner the whitening effects will wear off. Smokers who continue the habit after having their teeth whitened will not maintain their results as long as non-smokers as the use of tobacco stains and darkens teeth.

If you continue to consume teeth-staining foods & drinks, your whitening results can begin to fade in as little as one month. But if you avoid these foods and drinks and do not smoke, you can enjoy your white teeth for up to a year or longer before you need to schedule another whitening session.

If you have any questions about Zoom! teeth whitening, please call us at 850-444-9988 or contact us online as we’re always happy to speak with you. If you’re ready to whiten and brighten your smile with Zoom!, please schedule an appointment today. We look forward to helping you achieve the whiter & brighter smile you can be proud to show off wherever you go!

Why You Should Wear a Mouth Guard

School is officially back in session, which means many of our patients are getting back into the routine of class, homework, and after school fall sports. We’re very proud of our athletic patients, and we love nothing more than seeing them excel out on the field. But fall sports can also be dangerous – just one misstep, tackle, or bad fall can lead to chipped teeth, cut tongues, or worse. Thankfully, there’s a convenient, simple solution that protects both your teeth and mouth from damage – a custom-made mouth guard.

Here at Spanish Trail Dentistry, we truly believe that your smile is one of your best assets. Having a smile you’re proud of confers a boost in self-confidence, happiness, and self-esteem that radiates through every area of life. We know how much work every one of our patients has put into keeping their smile healthy and beautiful, and we’d hate to see them lose it with just one bad fall!

Thankfully, a mouth guard is easy to get and highly effective. All you’ll need to do is come into our office for a quick fitting appointment. We’ll take impressions of your teeth, then use those to have a mouth guard custom-manufactured to fit your mouth and teeth. Once we get your guard, simply come in to pick it up and use it every time you play or practice any sport. Now, you can play your hardest without worrying about hurting your teeth!

Back To School Dental Tips

Back To School Dental Care Tips

Spanish Trail Dentistry proudly offers quality dental care for children, teens and adults who live in Pensacola, FL and its surrounding areas. Orthodontist, Dr. Jeff Strickland, is dedicated to helping his patients achieve optimal oral health and teach them proper oral care techniques to ensure that they maintain it. Our team knows how important it is for our patients to come into a welcoming environment and leave fully knowledgeable on what treatment they just received and how they can avoid any future oral complications. Going back to school is exciting, but it is also important that our students make healthy choices and maintain proper dental care throughout the academic year.

Oral Care Tips For Parents & Their Students

Sometimes being back at school, students will forget to practice proper oral care techniques and make savvy oral health decisions. No need to worry. Here are some tips to help you child stay on top of this.

  • Prepare good healthy snacks and lunches that contain minimal amounts of sugar.
  • Encourage your child to drink white milk or water at school instead of juices, sodas or sports drinks. Consumption of water is essential for staying properly hydrated and it flushes their system, including particles and bacteria that linger in their mouth.
  • If your student plays sports, make sure they have a mouth guard to use during practice or games. There are standard mouthguards, but custom mouthguards are available as well.
  • Never let your student leave for school without brushing their teeth. Get them excited about oral care by letting them choose their own toothbrush, toothpaste and mouthwash.
  • Have your student floss at least once a day.
  • Make sure they are up to date with their semi-annual visits to our office for cleaning and check up.

Proper oral care is important for each of us to implement into our lives, regardless of age. The earlier we instill these practices into our students, the better off their self-esteem and overall health will be.

Zoom Professional Teeth Whitening For A More Radiant Smile

One of the very first things people notice about you is your smile. Of course you want your smile to look its very best!  If you tend to hide your smile because your teeth are not as white as you’d like them to be, our Pensacola cosmetic dentist, can help you achieve a whiter, more radiant smile with Zoom professional teeth whitening. smile to look its very best! Zoom-Whitening If you tend to hide your smile because your teeth are not as white as you’d like them to be, our Pensacola cosmetic dentist, Dr. Strickland can help you achieve a whiter, more radiant smile with Zoom professional teeth whitening.

Everyone loves having a white, bright smile. However, over time, teeth can lose their white appearance. Some medications have side effects that discolor teeth. Smoking and the use of tobacco products are not only dangerous to your health but also can leave dark stains on your teeth. Certain food and drinks can also stain and darken teeth, such as:

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Cola
  • Red Wine
  • Sauces
  • Berries

Also, as you grow older, the outer layer of your tooth enamel wears away which causes your teeth to look dull and darker in color. Teeth whitening can help diminish the gradual darkening of your teeth that happens with time.

While there are many over-the-counter teeth-whitening products being advertised, most do not live up to all the hype as they simply fall short as far as results are concerned. But with the Philips Zoom professional teeth whitening system, you will enjoy very impressive and immediate results. With this gel and light-activated whitening system, we can dramatically lighten your teeth in just under an hour. In fact from the time you enter our office and the time you leave, your teeth could become up to eight shades lighter!

How the Procedure Works

In order to be a candidate for Zoom, your teeth and gums must be in good overall health. If there are stains, plaque or tartar on your teeth, you may be required to have your teeth professionally cleaned prior to your whitening treatment. If you have cavities, you may need to have them repaired first before whitening your teeth to avoid complications.

Prior to the whitening process, your cheeks, lips and gums will be protected so that only your teeth are exposed. Then the Zoom whitening gel, containing peroxide, is applied directly to your teeth. Next, Dr. Strickland will use the Zoom whitening UV light to activate the whitening gel. The light, when combined with the whitening gel penetrates the surface of the teeth to break up stains and discoloration. This process is repeated several different times during your one-hour visit.  During the entire procedure, you will simply sit back and relax while the Zoom whitening system works to dramatically whiten and brighten your smile.

Impressive Results You’ll Love

Zoom is affordable, quick, convenient and safe. Unlike other teeth whitening options you can use at home (like whitening strips and whitening pens that take several days or even weeks to see results). Zoom will provide you with much better results in a far shorter time. While results vary from one person to the next, your smile will be noticeably whiter with Zoom.

Patients who’ve had their teeth professionally whitened with Zoom generally enjoy their whitening results for about one year although that is also dependent upon your genetics and habits. If you avoid consuming foods & drinks that stain teeth and smoking, you will have a better chance of maintaining your new, brighter smile. However, you can also help keep your smile bright and white between treatments with a Zoom whitening pen and periodic Zoom at home whitening.

If you would like to schedule an appointment for Zoom professional whitening, please contact our Pensacola dental practice by calling us at (850) 444-9988. Alternatively, you can fill out and submit the ‘Appointment Request’ form that is on our website. One of our team members will then contact you to set up an appointment time. We look forward to seeing you soon!
